re: App: Tomeoric

The application submitted by Tomeoric is as follows:

Quote:
BAND LEADERS: Apply on behalf of your band. Approval of your application DOES NOT guarantee a slot at Weatherstock. See Band Selection info below. Note: LMB members cannot lead a competition band.

BAND MEMBERS: Apply here if you want to keep up on Weatherstock developments on this forum. Note: LMB members can perform in a competition band on a non-kin alt.

LMB EVENT STAFF AND OFFICERS: Identify what team you'd like to help with and to gain access the forums.

What is your role in Weatherstock?:
Band Leader

Weatherstock Band Application Section (only Band Leaders should fill this out). Please Read The Entire Section.

Band Registration: Band Registration opens by Monday May 23rd and closes on Monday May 30th.

FYI: Each band will be paired with a "Roadie" from our Event Staff to ensure that all bands are ready for Weatherstock. Be sure to direct questions to your Roadie, and to answer questions promptly. Check this site regularly for news also.

Note: Weatherstock is a competition. Winners will be determined at the summit following the show. One prize will be awarded via an internet vote of all attendees, a second prize will be awarded via an internal vote of LMB members.

There will be no weighted lottery for summit selection this year. Bands will be selected through a vote of competition Band Leaders and select LMB Officers. Vote results will be published.

Band selection for the competition will occur *AFTER* all the Weatherstock Concert Series shows are completed. Only competing bands will play in the WCS.

Weatherstock Concert Series: The Weatherstock Concert Series is a set of concerts put on during the weeks leading up to Weatherstock. These are 55-minute concerts and these slots will be given only to bands that apply for the competition.

Playing in the Weatherstock Concert Series *IS* required for the competition. This is an opportunity for bands to showcase their talents for the voters to select them.

Competition Band Selection: There are 10 slots for the summit, to be chosen by email vote. Each competition Band Leader and select LMB Officers will vote for their top-5 bands. Band Leaders can vote for their own band.

ALL BANDS: Fill out the following section!

Multi-boxing: While not prohibited, please be aware that lag can be severe at the summit during the competition, so use multi-boxing at your own risk! The show must go on.

Band Contact information:

Include any other information here.:
*** Testing this application form ***

This form is very confusing. There is a lot of text that is randomly spread out over the application that people will most likely skip. The text runs together and there is no clear delineation between the sections and what actually needs to be answered for each question. Looks like you have an application for three different things (staff, bands, and competition bands), which adds to the confusion and also allows for certain fields to be skipped that should be required. Part of the confusion is figuring out what is meant by just playing in the WCS, versus playing in the WCS to also be voted to the summit.
- I selected "Band Leader" and was able to skip everything else.
- The yes/no radio buttons have no default selected, which allows for a "null" or blank selection.
- The drop-down yes/no field doesn't match the other yes/no fields.
- The WCS show is listed as 55m in some areas, and 1h in other areas.

GuildLaunch really is a poor tool for this sort of data collection. It is probably too late, but take a look at Google Forms (free). Much easier to control than GL, and the resulting data will be all ready to go in a nice spreadsheet. You should also consider clearly defining the guildlines/rules on a separate page. It will be very hard to refer to them if they are only listed in the application, mashed in with all the other application questions.

Wow... and you'd have to pull the application entry data out of that text wall. Yikes...

Double-human verification to post a reply? A little overkill...

Thanks for the feedback, Tom.

While I personally generally agree with you about the general Guildlaunch quality I think this should still suffice.

About the wall of text:
Yes, Weatherstock is indeed a relatively complex event with WCS and all. Thus people will need to read it all, that's why it's there in the first place. I think we can expect from people to give honest and valid information. Just because something is technically skippable it will eventually only lead to us requiring the applicant to either resubmit the application properly or give the missing information in subsequent posts.

A rules page was posted here by the way: http://weatherstock.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11190709&gid=316072
